Virginia Tech didn't face Duke Johnson when it played Miami last season. The Hokies would be happy to never see him again, either. Johnson ran for 249 yards and scored two touchdowns, and Miami raced to a 24-0 halftime lead, then took the ball away on the Hokies' first three possessions after halftime to prevent a comeback in a 30-6 victory Thursday night. ''I thought that was one of the better running backs, maybe the best that we've ever tried to tackle,'' Hokies coach Frank Beamer said about Johnson, who had 29 times. ...More

Miami comes out of its bye week rested and healthier (though the situation on the offensive line has not improved) as it gets ready for a Thursday night affair at Virginia Tech.

The Hurricanes also find themselves back in the ACC Coastal Division race with Georgia Tech having lost for a second time in league play while the Hurricanes were idle.

Though it still is early—Miami's game against the Hokies will be just its fourth in league play—all seven teams in the division remain in contention for the Coastal spot in the conference championship game.

Miami is one of four teams along with Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina with two conference losses. ...More
