First, it was going to be Ryan Williams. Then he got hurt in the spring.
Then it was going to be his backup, Kevin Olsen. But he reportedly failed a drug test and was suspended for the season opener.
Then the reins looked to go to transfer Jake Heaps, who came in looking for playing time after stops at BYU and then Kansas.
But in the end, it will be true freshman Brad Kaaya out of West Hills, Calif., who will start at quarterback for Miami when the Hurricanes open the season Labor Day night at Louisville.
Coach Al Golden made the decision before the Hurricanes moved into game-week preparations.
"It was a tight battle," Golden said. "It was a battle that none of us could have foresaw at the end of June or July or the beginning of camp.
