Gonzalo Higuain Happy To Fight For His Place At Real Madrid
Last season, Gonzalo Higuain demonstrated his value to Real Madrid by scoring 22 goals in 34 league matches for the club.
While his place in the team is still not guaranteed, mainly due to the summer arrival of Karim Benzema, the Argentine has insisted that he is happy to fight for his place and work for the benefit of the team.
"The competition at Real Madrid is fierce, and so it should be," he announced to El Mundo.
"I don't pretend to earn [a starting place] anywhere else than in the day to day training. My claim is legitimate, as is everyone else's. Moreover, I think that is an obligation for every player - otherwise, why are we here?
"I never knew anything but Real Madrid while I was growing up. Every year another great striker appeared. The big clubs think of their attack, because it goes with their philosophy.
"And then there was Ronaldo. People wanted to compare me with him when I arrived, and some people became unfair because I was just a beginner and Ronaldo was the greatest," he said, in conclusion.
