The recovery of Owen Hargreaves following a long-term knee injury that required surgery has almost been concluded, with the Canadian-born England international just "ten days" shy of making a comeback, according to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

"He’s been doing some good football work with our physios and hopefully we'll get him back in training in the next 10 days," Ferguson confirmed to the club's official website.

"We’re not going to force it, but he is very happy within himself."

Since moving to United from FC Bayern Munich in 2007, Hargreaves has made just 37 appearances.

Concerned at the player's inability to embark on a consistent run of games, the Old Trafford management will reportedly offer a "pay as you play" deal to Hargreaves should he want to continue employment with the Premier League champions.

A recent report in the Mirror indicated that, while Hargreaves has 20 months left on his current deal, United will likely hold talks at the end of the season.
