Walter Smith: Rangers Have Made Amends
By Andrew Southwick
Rangers manager Walter Smith conceded it will now be very difficult for his side to qualify from their Champions League group following the 1-1 with Unirea Urziceni.
However, he says his men can hold their heads high after repairing the damage done to their reputation when the Romanians ran out 4-1 winners two weeks ago.
Lee McCulloch scored ten minutes from time, with Smith's side thinking that would prove to be the winning goal, only for a late leveller to deny them with just two minutes to go.
He told Sky Sports: "It was a very good performance and we more than made amends for the last game.
"It was really disappointing to give away a goal so late in the game. Victory would have put us back into at least having an opportunity to qualify."
The 'Gers boss thought his side had claimed a vital three points when McCulloch scored, which would have put them third in the group.
"They're always dangerous from set plays but outside of that they had maybe one or two chances, but we had far more and I felt we deserved to win the game," he said.
"It's going to be far more difficult now but we just have to hope we can get ourselves together. We can put pressure on by winning our home games."
